This is a time jump! In the past few newsletters, I’ve been writing about events that actually took place several months ago. How my partner Amanda and I came up with the idea for an X-Men-inspired dating sim, developed the characters and the outline, and had fateful conversations with the publisher.

The pilot is very much a work-in-progress, intended to evolve. For example, there’s a weird bug affecting some users that needs to be fixed. (It’s not game breaking, just… odd.) People like you, who have incredible super powers, are being kidnapped by shadowy corporations and unaccountable government agencies. Who can you trust? Who’s fighting back? Are any of them hot?

Join The Phenomenals, a trio of powerful, hunky heroes who fight to protect “phenoms,” people with superhuman abilities. Sureshot is the protective leader with nerves of steel who never has to aim his crossbow to hit his mark. Fever is the charismatic playboy with a devastating smile who can raise anyone’s body temperature with one look. Gleam is the intoxicatingly goofy green cutie who can induce a euphoric trance just by touching you. They don’t always get along – your enchanting presence may cause a few rifts – but the team remains dedicated to protecting phenoms everywhere.

When you first meet The Phenomenals, you’re an ordinary shopper returning an air fryer. Soon, you’re their newest and hottest recruit thrown onto a mysterious mission: A shadowy chemical company is connected to a wave of phenom disappearances. Grow your powers by training in their augmented reality Panic Dojo. Work directly under your teammates. Stay close and team up with each hunky hero for… side missions.     I’d like to give this a try, to at least check for baseline blind accessibility, but I don’t own any iOS devices and know of no way to emulate/virtualize iOS on a Linux Desktop, much less an accessible means, assuming a few years old Ryzen with 16GB of RAM and no dedicated GPU could manage emulating/virtualizing a flagship smartphone… and if I’m misreading things and there’s an Android version, I never did get the hang of basic navigation with talkback.

      I wish they had web versions, too. This is another reason to release the game outside of Dorian’s ecosystem.
